Message Here is a breakdown of what the numbers mean:

20W50

20W- this refers to the (W) weight of the oil at room (or about) temperature.

50 - refers to the oils perfomance at engine operating temperature. In this case it means it will have the film strenght of a 50(W) weight oil.

10W30

10 Weight oil that performs like a 30 weight at engine operating temperature. So It's the second number that tells you how strong the oil film might be.

I maybe wrong on some minor points here so anyone can feel free to correct me.
